Finding a therapist who truly understands you is hard enough. Finding one you can speak to in your own language shouldn't be. I'm Ricardo Martins, a CRPO Registered Psychotherapist, and I offer relational, trauma-oriented therapy in Portuguese — for the moments that are easier to feel than to translate.
Therapy in the language you dream in
When you're carrying anxiety, grief, or the quiet weight of building a life in a new country, having to first translate your inner world into a second language can leave the most important things unsaid. Working in Portuguese means you can arrive as you already are. Nothing gets lost on the way to being understood.
Who I work with
I support Portuguese-speaking immigrants, newcomers, and members of the Lusophone and LGBTQ+ communities navigating homesickness, cultural adjustment, identity, relationships, and trauma. Whether you arrived last year or a decade ago, the experience of belonging in two places and fully in neither is something we can work through together.
How I work
My approach is relational, integrative, and grounded in the body. I trained at the Gestalt Institute of Toronto and in intersubjective self-psychology, and I adapt what we do to what you actually need — especially around trauma and adverse experiences. Sessions are a collaboration, not a formula.
In-person and online
I offer in-person sessions in Toronto and secure online sessions across Ontario, so distance or a busy schedule doesn't have to stand between you and support.
Let's take the first step
The first step is simply a conversation. I offer a free 15-minute consultation — no pressure, just a chance to see if we're a good fit. Book your free consultation today.
